The Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a unique wildlife sanctuary that is located in Karnataka, India. The total area of this tiny wildlife park is about 67 square kilometers.Ranganathittu Wildlife sanctury This wildlife park and bird sanctuary is situated quite close to the Vrindavan gardens in Mysore, India. This unique bird sanctuary is set on the banks of the River Kaveri and has a group of six islets. These islets are infested with aquatic organisms and insects during the monsoon season that invite exotic birds to come and nest at the Ranganathittu wildlife park and bird sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh, India.This bird sanctuary is perfect for those who like to go on short wildlife tours and bird watching tours. The area has a extreme climate that is it is extremely cold in the winters and quite hot in the summers. This area is also prone to slight floods during the monsoon season.The Ranganathittu bird sanctuary in Karnataka, India is a perfect place to go bird watching as this wildlife park and sanctuary happens to be the nesting and breeding ground for several species of migratory birds.
Some birds that are known to have made the Ranganathittu bird sanctuary their breeding ground are darters, white Ibis, spoonbills, cormorants, open bill storks, egret, river tern, heron, stone plougher, partridge, snake bird and a hoard of other exotic birds from Siberia and other countries visit the Ranganathittu bird sanctuary. Local birds like peacocks and kingfishers are commonly visible.

CLIMATE:

There are no extremities of temperature at Ranganathittu Sanctuary. The temperature stays between the 23-29°C range for most parts of the year. In June, when the southwest monsoon peaks throughout Karnataka state, heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by waterlogging and mild flooding, has been reported from the area.

    
REACHING THERE:
Private taxis, which are freely available in Mysore and Bangalore, are the most convenient mode of transport for reaching the sanctuary. Since the sanctuary is on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, approach is through either of the two cities. The nearest rail junction is Mysore (18 km). The nearest international airport is Bangalore (125 km).

STAYING THERE:
Accommodation is available at Ranganathittu in the form of three Riverside Cottages. Most tourists, however, prefer to stay at nearby Mysore.

LINKS TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD:
Nearest town where communication (post, telegraph, fax and telephones) facilities are available is Mysore at distance of less than 20 km. Since 1995, the number of Internet cafés in Mysore is on the rise.

PLACES NEARBY:
The picturesque town of Mysore and the garden city of Bangalore are the nearby attractions from the bird sanctuary.

TRAVEL TIPS:
A visit in the month of June when rainfall is at its peak in this part of the world should be avoided. Thick raincoats are recommended if visiting in or around the month of June.
